Gov. Kathy Hochul verified the information late Monday night, announcing at a news conference with State Police that Ross had left a ransom letter in the family’s mailbox at approximately 4:20 a.m. Monday.
After Craig Ross Jr departed the area, state officers retrieved the message. A fingerprint on the note was matched to fingerprints from Ross’ arrest for driving while drunk in Saratoga Springs in 1999 at about 2 p.m. on Monday.

After raiding the residence and rescuing the girl, State Police sealed off Barrett Road on Monday evening, preventing traffic from approaching the quiet area.

Suspect Arrested
Hochul stated that after recovering the ransom note from Charlotte’s parents’ mailbox, investigators began processing it for fingerprints.
According to Hochul, officials received a hit on the fingerprint at about 2:30 p.m. on October 2.
According to her, the print matched Ross’s old drunk driving arrest.
According to Hochul, the suspect’s “fingerprints were already in a law enforcement database.”
According to Hochul, officials also analyzed mobile phone pings to compile a list of suspects.
The arrest came less than three hours after State Police said their continuous search spanned 46 linear miles. Around 400 certified rescuers and searchers from many law enforcement agencies and firefighters had been searching for Charlotte after she went missing Saturday evening at Moreau Lake State Park, where she was camping with her family and friends.
Charlotte and her family slept at Loop A Campground 18 on Saturday, the site closest to the park’s entrance on Old Saratoga Road and about a mile from Exit 17 on the Northway. When she vanished, she was riding her bicycle on a little loop road littered with campgrounds, and she had sought permission to ride around the road one final time by herself. Her relatives and friends looked for her desperately before phoning 911 about 6:45 p.m. that evening.
According to state police officials, the inquiry is centred on the notion that her kidnapping resulted from someone purposefully targeting the youngster or her family.
The kid was abducted under circumstances that make authorities suspect they are at immediate risk of severe injury and death, according to a 9:35 a.m. Sunday Amber Alert.
One of the 2,000 missing-person fliers that the union had prepared was posted to the window of a Dunkin’ Donuts just before 2 p.m. on Monday by Jenny-Lee Smith, the wife of union pipefitter John Smith, who works with Charlotte’s father, David Sena.
