Kathleen Wilson, a Minnesota resident, is suing her dentist, alleging that during a lengthy five-hour appointment, he administered too much anesthesia, eight crowns, four root canals, and twenty tooth filings.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Dr. Kevin Molldrem of Molldrem Family Dentistry in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, is named in the complaint filed by patient Ms. Wilson as the cause of the drawn-out surgery.

An outside dentist consulted in the complaint claims that even though Ms. Wilson had evidence of decay in most of her teeth when she came to the dentist, it shouldn’t have triggered such a severe response.

“Katie’s illness necessitated a gradual, deliberate, cautious, and calculated reaction. The dentist stated, “Attempting to fill every cavity in every tooth in her mouth in a single appointment is not only the opposite of what was recommended, but it is also not ethically feasible to accomplish efficiently or positively.

Damages in the negligence complaint are sought to be at least $50,000.

Woman Sues Dentist Over Five-Hour Surgery

A Minnesota woman is suing her dentist, alleging he misrepresented the amount of anesthetic he administered, conducted too many treatments in one visit, and left her in anguish and scarred.

In her civil lawsuit, filed on Thursday in Hennepin County District Court, Kathleen Wilson claims that over a five-and-a-half-hour period in July 2020, Dr. Kevin Molldrem performed eight dental crowns, four root canals, and twenty fillings.

According to an affidavit acquired by the Star Tribune, Wilson was left in agony, humiliated, deformed, and upset as a result. He had to schedule several more sessions with various dentists to have Molldrem’s alleged mess fixed.

She goes on to say that Molldrem fabricated her medical records and overdone anesthetic to escape responsibility.

Expert Florida dentist has already endorsed her lawsuit, requesting at least $50,000 in damages.

Wilson’s July 7, 2020, diagnosis of having decay in “virtually every tooth” was confirmed by Dr. Avrum Goldstein. However, Wilson received subpar care the following week.

In a report published on November 14, Goldstein stated that “Katie required a slow, thoughtful, careful and measured response to her disease.”

“It is not only not humanely possible to accomplish effectively or constructively, but it is also the opposite of what was indicated—trying to fill every cavity in every tooth in her mouth in one visit.”

He said that Wilson was not helped by Molldrem’s desire to fix her teeth in a single visit.

Additionally, Molldrem, who has been in practice in Eden Prairie since 2004, was accused by Goldstein of over-anesthesia Wilson during the procedure.

When meeting Wilson in July 2020, Molldrem reportedly gave her 960 milligrams, over double the prescribed amount of 490 mg for a lengthy session.

Over many months in 2022, Wilson ultimately obtained appropriate care from the University of Minnesota Dental School to repair and replace numerous restorations in an “attempt to stabilize her mouth,” according to the complaint.

However, according to Goldstein,

“all of the work that was done and all of the expense associated with it will have been for nothing” if Wilson later needs to have all of his teeth extracted or replaced with implants.
