Sheldon Rodrigues, the jealous housemate who beat and stabbed a woman to death with a hair dryer after using a hidden tracking device to spy on her, has been sentenced to life in prison.
Rodrigues repeatedly abandoned Stephanie Hansen, 39, after she rejected his romantic advances and began a relationship with a married colleague.
He began listening to her obsessively through a device hidden inside the television and spent approximately 158 hours spying on her without her knowledge.
He also sent abusive messages on Facebook using the name of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and complained to his employer, Swissport Airlines, near Heathrow.
Sentencing him to life in prison, Judge Judy Khan KC said Sheldon Rodrigueshad carried out a campaign of harassment and intimidation.
She said the attack was “sustained and brutal” and deliberate because of his anger at Hansen.

Before the murder, Rodrigues learned that Celso Cavilán, the boyfriend of Hansen’s shipping agent and father of three, had visited his home.
Rodrigues was said to have listened to the couple’s “most intimate moments” on a Micromax phone hidden in the living room while working the night shift at another transport company near Heathrow.
When he arrived home around 7 a.m., he “exploded with anger and brutally attacked him.” Hansen was still in his pajamas in his room.
The defendant repeatedly stabbed her in the neck and hit her head and face with “extreme force” with a hair dryer and a large fan, jurors were told during the trial.
Rodrigues and Ms. Hansen had been in an intimate relationship years ago; she had no interest in maintaining a close relationship and preferred to be friends.

He did not appear to accept her refusal and even suggested she undergo surgery to change her appearance, the court heard.
In April 2021, the couple moved into a house on Willenhall Drive to share bills, and in late 2022, Hansen entered into a relationship with Cavilan.
Sheldon Rodrigues reportedly spent 158 hours listening to Hanson while he worked or visited India, where he was born, an average of three hours daily.
He purchased a “spy camera” device to make secret recordings inside the house and monitor Mr. Hansen’s new relationship.
A hidden listening device called a ‘Spy Plug’ was also found on a shelf in the defendant’s bedroom.
He claimed the recording device was installed for Mr Hansen’s security.
In November 2022, he emailed Swissport under a false name, complaining that Kavilan was trying to “play” with his partner and “flirt” with him.
On December 8, the defendant, using the name Jamie Oliver, allegedly sent a message to Hansen’s friends on Facebook saying that his girlfriend and his son were going to be kidnapped.
Two days later, he is said to have paid a man £100 to give him a lift in his car to follow Mr Kavilan.
The defendant claimed that Mr. Kavilan was a murderer and even wrote the following letter to Swissport: “He killed my housemate, Stephanie Hansen, the night I was home. When I got home, I found her.”
Rodrigues denied the murder but was found guilty in January.

Sentencing at the Old Bailey on Friday, Judge Judy Khan KC said Rodrigues had carried out a ” campaign of harassment and intimidation.”””
She said the attack was “sustained and brutal” and “premeditated” because of her anger at Hansen.
“You took his life, and you stole his future,” the victim’s mother, Glenda Hansen, told Rodrigues through tears.
Speaking of the murder trial, she continued: “You made us feel pain for weeks and listen to your lies.”
Hansen, who cleaned the park in her spare time, introduced the defendant to her family because she trusted him, and they did the same, the court heard.
“Our world has changed forever. People say time will tell, but I don’t believe them,” said Russell Hansen, the victim’s younger brother who served in the military.
Hansen told the court he felt he had “failed” to protect his sister.
